Post Waxing Maintenance Tips

Table of Contents

Waxing unneeded hair off the face or body comes with its upsides and downsides. Sure, you get hair free for longer than shaving would grant you and won’t get problematic stubbles.

However, waxing can be painful. The brisk, abrupt yank that pulls away the hair can bother even the most resilient of skin after the waxing session is over, Want to know how you can care for your skin after waxing? At Profile Laser and Skin Care, we can save your skin.

1) Apply Ice

Ice can be used to help with pain relief before your wax, it also helps to soothe your recently waxed skin, too. After the waxing, you should apply a cold compress to the area for a few minutes.
This will help provide the sensitive area with a welcome soothing sensation and relax the nerves around your recently waxed areas.

2) Do your showering pre-waxing

Because hot water and scented body wash can cause freshly-waxed skin to feel more irritated, it is always better to have a mildly cold shower right before your waxing session begins. This provides for your skin some time to soothe itself before jumping in again.

3) Stay Out of The Water

If you’re planning on getting waxed before a trip to the beach or pool party, schedule your appointment the day before to help avoid any irritation. After a wax, your skin could experience some sensitivity — which in turn, can experience more irritation if exposed to salt water or chemicals used to chlorinate your pool or hot tub. Play it safe and stay out of the water for at least 12 hours post wax. You may also want to rethink taking a hot bath or shower, too.

4) Be Sunscreen-Wise

After a wax, your skin could experience more sensitivity to the sun than usual, so be careful!  That tan could wait! If you want to spend some quality time with the sun, we recommend applying and reapplying  physical sunscreen, as it’s efficacy is immediate upon application. At Profile Laser and Skin Care, we offer a range of effective sunscreens.

5) Wear Comfortable Clothing

Getting areas like your bikini line or armpits waxed might seem like a piece of cake — but, if you aren’t careful, these areas can become irritated from the rubbing of your jeans or wool sweater. When going in for wax, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing—like a pair of cotton sweatpants and a soft, cotton t-shirt under your sweater — to ensure that your sensitive post-wax skin doesn’t get irritated with you and your decision to get waxed in the first place. Loose clothing may also be a good idea, as you don’t want to rub your freshly waxed skin the wrong way… literally!

6) Smooth it over with the  Aloe

It doesn’t hurt to bring a small container of aloe with you to your appointment — or, ask your wax specialist to apply some post-wax. Aloe can temporarily soothe and hydrate sensitive skin, which could make your ride home from the salon much more comfortable. If you are someone who experiences a lot of sensitivity, aloe vera can also be used as a natural alternative to body moisturizers.
